Self-care as a societal movement that people must champion

Mindful, 201Preserving Your Well-being

There are certain signs which one should look for if an individual is stressed. In most cases, it would be an outcome from heavy workload or responsibility, long hours of work and study,  dramatic decisions, financial debts or even traumatic events. At most times, stress is expressed from the inner self. Consequently, it is essential to start self-care within oneself.

Research suggests that spending time outside can function as a natural medicine.

Total Wellness Health, 2018

Most people would agree that living a healthy life would contribute to many positive factors. A person should exercise regularly since it is a great way to lighten up a person’s mood and promote better  memory. Studies have shown that people who exercise frequently would encounter less symptoms of negative emotions and disorders such as depression and anxiety. Any aerobic exercises such as walking, cycling, running or strength training would help with improving one’s mood. The practice also applies to eating healthy and having sufficient hours of sleep. A good regime allows a balanced life and distracts one from over-worrying about the past and future by living in the present. That also includes meditation to calm the mind and diminish the worries.

Now would be a great time to set that alarm clock and hit the grocery store right?

A Self-Care Plan for Yourself

If one is stressed, it would be a great idea to take a walk, better yet, go on a road trip or travel somewhere to loosen up. By spending more time outside amongst nature and people, it improves the overall performances of emotional, physical and mental health. Research suggests that participating in outdoor activities can function as a natural medicine and lower the risk of early death For an easier and time-saving alternative, anyone could just take the time off electronic devices and pick up a book to read or meditate.

Time to pack the books, bags and hit the road then!

Be Your Own Person

Typically, time management varies from person to person. Some people have time to be productive but not enough to rest, while some makes time for it. The initiative to take the first step to practice self-care would result in better emotional development. In fact, it is alright to think it through and make sure one is ready to take on the self-recovery journey for a greater well-being.

Like Lailah Gifty Akita, the founder of Smart Youth Volunteers Foundation once said, “Make time daily for your well-being.” (Goodread, 2019).
